NEW OFFICERS, LICENSING AGREEMENTS AND STRONG SALES AT TOLLGRADE

CHESWICK, Pa., Oct. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Tollgrade Communications, Inc. elected new officers, announced new licensing agreements and reported strong third quarter results at the annual meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 6, the company announced today.
The officers are R. Craig Allison, chairman; Chris Allison, president; Rocky Flaminio, vice chairman and chief technology officer; Herman Flaminio, senior vice president, strategic products; Mark Frey, senior vice president, engineering; and Fred Kiko, senior vice president, design.
Chris Allison reported that Tollgrade is on the way to doubling sales for the second consecutive year. The 6-year-old company, which is a designer, manufacturer and marketer of high technology transmission products for the telecommunications industry, earned $142,236 in net income on sales of $4.8 million in 1992. Given a strong first half performance in 1993, a record-setting $2.2 million in third quarter sales, and a backlog of orders for the fourth quarter, Allison projected $9.0 million in sales by year-end, with an expected $560,000 in net income.
The product line hero in Tollgrade's rapid growth is the patented metallic channel unit (MCU). This technology allows the expanding fiber- optic telephone system to communicate with the older copper or metallic lines.
"The MCU technology has put us in a new arena," said R. Craig Allison. "It has opened new territory for sales and licensure and joint ventures."
The company has signed licensing agreements with every leading digital loop carrier vendor serving the Bell system, including AT&T Network Systems, and, more recently, Reliance Comm/Tec Corporation and Fujitsu Network Transmission Systems.
"Tollgrade has successfully evolved from a start-up venture to a profitable, high-growth vital player in the fast-paced telecommunications industry," said Chris Allison. "Our on-time delivery rating in 1992 -- and so far in 1993 -- is above 95 percent. In 1992, we received three supplier performance awards from Ameritech Services for delivery timeliness, high-quality products and responsiveness to their needs."
Tollgrade Communications, Inc., a privately held corporation, designs, engineers, manufactures and markets sophisticated electronic equipment used by the Regional Bell Operating Companies, predominantly in AT&T systems. Through joint ventures and direct sales, Tollgrade products are also integrated into systems made by other major telecommunications manufacturers such as Northern Telecom, Fujitsu Network Transmission Systems, Reliance Comm/Tec Corporation and AT&T Network Systems.
