NEW MEDICAL CLINIC TO SERVE GAY, LESBIAN COMMUNITY.

In another sign that the AIDS crisis has abated in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. , the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center will open a doctor's office to cater to the health-care needs of gays and lesbians beyond just HIV HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus), either of two closely related retroviruses that invade T-helper lymphocytes and are responsible for AIDS. There are two types of HIV: HIV-1 and HIV-2. HIV-1 is responsible for the vast majority of AIDS in the United States.  and AIDS.

The new Lambda Medical Group location, which will be staffed by five family-practice physicians and one ob-gyn affiliated with the University of Southern California The U.S. News & World Report ranked USC 27th among all universities in the United States in its 2008 ranking of "America's Best Colleges", also designating it as one of the "most selective universities" for admitting 8,634 of the almost 34,000 who applied for freshman admission  School of Medicine, opens today at the Museum Square Building, 5757 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles.

``We want to offer a safe haven for gay men and lesbians in a setting that combines sensitivity with quality care,'' said Lorri Jean, executive director of the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center, the city's largest provider of social and medical services for the gay community.

Research has shown that lesbian and gay people avoid seeking medical care because of fear of discrimination from doctors and other medical workers, Jean said.
