NEW LAPD BEATING VIDEOS SURFACE.

Four new videos surfaced online Thursday, showing Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  police clubbing two young people as they videotaped the arrest of a third during a demonstration in Hollywood.

The footage, taken in July, comes within days of two other videos that have refocused the spotlight on police brutality Police brutality is a term used to describe the excessive use of physical force, assault, verbal attacks, and threats by police officers and other law enforcement officers. The term may also be used to apply to such behavior when used by prison officers.  in a department that has struggled to improve its reputation.

Police said the incident, from a counterprotest to a July 8 Minutemen rally, is under investigation.

Westberry and Villa were arrested on suspicion of interfering with a police officer, said Jim Lafferty, executive director of the National Lawyers Guild of Los Angeles, which is representing them in court.

Lafferty said the two were hospitalized with minor injuries.

A second video appeared Tuesday of an arrest in Venice in February 2005 in which officers used pepper spray on a handcuffed transient who spat on them. Police Chief William Bratton has said the the tape shows they did not use excessive force and is expected to make an administrative ruling on the officers' conduct.

The National Lawyers Guild of Los Angeles filed a lawsuit in 2000 on behalf of local organizations that alleged unnecessary force used by LAPD during the Democratic National Convention.
