NEW KMART, HERTZ PENSKE AGREEMENT OFFERS DO-IT-YOURSELF MOVERS ADDED CONVENIENCE
TROY, Mich., May 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Kmart Corporation (NYSE: KM) and Hertz Penske Truck Rental are joining forces to provide consumers with convenient, identifiable locations where they can rent trucks as well as purchase moving supplies and other necessities for their new home.
As part of the one-year test program beginning May 7, the Kmart store located at 215 North Maple Road in Ann Arbor, Mich., will offer truck rentals. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 8:45 a.m. in front of the Automotive Service Center. Under the test marketing plan, a total of nine Kmart stores in Seattle, Phoenix, Baltimore, Columbus, Ohio; Indianapolis; and Medina, Ohio, will establish Hertz Penske rental sites in existing Kmart automotive service centers.
"Consumers who use the new Kmart rental locations will have everything they need readily available under one roof," said Jim Feenstra, marketing manager of Penske Truck Leasing. "The convenience of a do-it-yourself move will be amplified by Kmart's wide selection of products for the home."
"Today's shopper can enjoy one-stop convenience," said Harold W. Parkinson, divisional vice president, Kmart automotive. "Our partnership with Hertz Penske Truck Rental combines their experience in the rental business and Kmart's extensive network of automotive service centers."
Kmart discount coupons for brand-name household items will be available at Kmart test locations and all Hertz Penske rental sites. At each Kmart location, moving accessories and supplies, such as cartons, boxes, furniture pads and hand trucks will be offered.
Hertz Penske will continue to rent trucks from its 700-plus nationwide locations, Feenstra said. He added that Hertz Penske is constantly adding new trucks to its fleet to provide the best comfort and safety to truck renters. As a result, the company's rental vehicles now have an average age of 1.5 years, compared to the industry average of about three years.
