NEW JERSEY PIONEERS SPONSOR BEACH CLEANUP AS PART OF WORLDWIDE EFFORT ON SEPT. 18

LIVINGSTON, N.J., Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Hundreds of New Jersey residents -- members of the Telephone Pioneers of America -- with their neighbors, families and friends are expected to join forces in a beach- front cleanup in Seaside Heights and Seaside Park, N.J. on Saturday, Sept. 18, between 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The project -- a joint venture between Bellcore and New Jersey Bell chapters of the Telephone Pioneers of America (TPA) and the Washington- based international Center for Marine Conservation (CMC) -- is part of a worldwide, annual initiative.
As planned, participants are expected to cover a 2-1/2 mile stretch of carefully markered Jersey shoreline, collecting debris, and submitting it to the CMC for analysis and cataloging. Debris collected in past CMC cleanups ranged from hundreds of thousands of cigarette butts to large household furnishings.
Pioneers sponsored by New Jersey Bell and Bellcore are spearheading the drive to combat the problem of marine debris, which increasingly pollutes New Jersey's waterways. Pioneer volunteers in other states will be targeting lakes and beaches on the same day as part of an International Coastal Cleanup involving volunteers from 32 countries.
