NEW JERSEY CASINO CONTROL COMMISSION ANNOUNCES FORMATION OF CITIZENS' ADVISORY COMMITTEE TO HELP WOMEN, MINORITIES, PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J., April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Casino Control Commission Chairman Steven Perskie has announced the formation of a citizens' advisory committee to help women, minorities, and persons with disabilities achieve greater levels of participation in all areas of employment in the casino industry.
The commission is entrusted with the responsibility of enforcing affirmative action goals in the Atlantic City casinos and Perskie said the advisory committee will work with the industry to enhance "our solid commitment to affirmative action."
The group of local volunteers will report directly to the chief of the commission's Affirmative Action/Equal Employment Opportunity Unit, Gustave Thomas, and their recommendations will be shared with Perskie and the other commissioners.
"Our job is to work with citizens and the casino industry to build a positive and productive approach to securing opportunities and advancement for women, minorities, and people with disabilities," said Perskie.
The first meeting of the advisory committee will take place on Monday, April 13, at 11 a.m. at the Saint James AME Church, Arctic and New York avenues in Atlantic City.
"The community-minded citizens who serve on the committee are interested in the revitalization of Atlantic City and they want everyone to share in this rebirth," Perskie said. "Their efforts will help us as we strive to promote the hiring of qualified women, minorities, persons with disabilities, and local vendors throughout the casino industry. This is another attempt on our part to better understand the needs of the community we serve and include local residents in our process."
