 NEW INSPIRATIONAL NETWORK'S PRODUCTION STUDIOS
 BRINGING STATE-OF-THE-ART TO CHARLOTTE

Network Will Welcome Outside TV, Film, Commercial & Net Producers
CHARLOTTE, N.C., Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- When the New Inspirational Network (INSP) officially opens its new $11 million flagship production studios next January, it will also be laying out the welcome mat for outside producers interested in working at a state-of-the-art facility located in the heart one of the fastest growing markets for television, film and commercial production.
"While this new production facility will allow us to pursue our goal of producing more innovative, high-quality, inspirational family entertainment for the INSP cable network, it's also a major resource for the other cable and broadcast networks, motion picture companies and commercial producers who have been looking to Charlotte as a new East Coast hub of operations," said INSP President David Cerullo.
"This new facility represents a major commitment to the growth of INSP, the cable industry and a commitment to the future of Charlotte."
The 50,000-square-foot facility will have three sound stages offering near 11,000 square feet of production space.
Two production control rooms are slated to be equipped with Grass Valley 300 switchers, a two channel Chyron 4100 character generator and a two-channel Abekas A72 character generator. Studio sound will be handled by two audio control rooms, each will have a 36 input, Harrison MR3 audio console. The sound stages will also be hardwired for external hook-up to remote production trucks.
Eight studio cameras will be on the floor.
INSP's post-production plans call for two on-line editing suites. Each will be equipped for interformat editing (1 inch, Beta and D3) using GVG 200 switchers, GVG 251 editors and GVG 170 automated stereo audio mixers. Abekas will supply the character generators (A72) and two channel visual effects systems (A53D with warp). Discreet Logic's video compositing system will also be installed in both suites along with monitors from Sony.
Off-line editing requirements will be met with an Avid non-linear editing system located in a separate suite.
INSP is going with the Silicon Graphics platform for its electronic graphics suite, using Matador software for paint and software from Softimage for 3-D animation.
Although the network is making a significant commitment to the latest in analog equipment, its engineers are already looking ahead to the next wave technology, digital video.
"Every day, new advancements are being made in digital video technology," said Cerullo. "We will be upgrading wherever possible to remain on the cutting edge."
With INSP's on-site satellite teleport, producers using the new facility will not be working in isolation. Through its four dish, fully redundant system, they will have two-way access to C-Band satellites and downlink service on KU-Band (a KU-Band uplink is planned).
Additionally, INSP will have live remote broadcast and full electronic field production (EFP) capability through its microwave transmitter equipped production truck. This truck features an on- board GVG 1600-1L switcher with five camera input and two Beta 75 record VTRs. A full location lighting package, complete with generators, will also be available.
INSP currently employs nearly 50 people. By the end of 1993, that number is expected to reach 75. This is in sharp contrast to just two short years ago when the network -- under previous management -- was bankrupt and employed a staff of seven.
"Our target, over the next five years, is to raise the level of locally produced, original programming on the INSP cable network to a level of 35 percent. This new facility is a key factor toward the achievement of that goal. At the same time, we have real opportunity to enrich the greater Charlotte area by attracting other cable, broadcast TV, feature film and commercial producers to work in our community," added Cerullo.
"We hope our efforts will be inspiring and enriching to everyone who watches our programs and walks through our doors, because that's what INSP is all about."
INSP is a non-denominational, not-for-profit cable network which currently serves more than 750 cable systems across the country with a growing subscriber base of nearly 6 million homes.
