NEW INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR REPORTING.


When Jan. 1, 2001 rolls around, any business or government entity that is required to file a federal Form 1099-MISC for services received may have to report specific independent contractor independent contractor n. a person or business which performs services for another person or entity under a contract between them, with the terms spelled out such as duties, pay, the amount and type of work and other matters. An independent contractor is distinguished from an employee, who works regularly for an employer. information to EDD. Under the new requirements, you must report to EDD within 20 days of either making payments of $600 or more, or entering into a contract for $600 or more, with an independent contractor in any calendar year, whichever is earlier.
