NEW ILMOR INDY 94 ENGINE SET FOR 1994 SEASON

BRIXWORTH, Northampton, England, Sept. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Ilmor Engineering Ltd. will design and manufacture new Ilmor Indy 94 race engines for competitors in the 1994 PPG Indy Car World Series, including the Indianapolis 500 mile race.
The new Ilmor Indy 94 engine package is more compact, lighter, and more powerful than its predecessor, designated as the 1993 Chevy Indy V8/C, according to Ilmor Technical Director Mario Illien and Managing Director Paul Morgan. The new powerplant is presently undergoing development at Ilmor Engineering's Brixworth headquarters in England.
Morgan said, "We are particularly excited about the potential for the Ilmor Indy 94, which features continued innovation in the design, production, and development of the new engine for our customers. We are very well prepared to meet the challenge presented by the Ford Cosworth XB engine as well as the recently announced plans of Honda and Toyota to enter Indy Car competition."
In the meantime, Ilmor will continue to provide their usual services and support to all present customers. Ilmor will also continue to source key components and systems from various divisions of General Motors.
Engines designed and built by Ilmor for Indy Car racing have set the industry standard since 1987, with 82 pole positions and 85 race wins out of 121 race starts, including six consecutive Indianapolis 500 victories. On Sunday, Sept. 12, at Mid-Ohio, Emerson Fittipaldi scored the ninth win in 14 races this year for the Chevy Indy V8/C engine designed and manufactured by Ilmor.
General Motors (NYSE: GM) has owned 25 percent of Ilmor since it was founded in 1984. Morgan and Illien own 25 percent each, and the Penske Performance Group owns the remaining 25 percent.
In addition to the Indy Car engines produced at its factory in Brixworth, Ilmor also supplies V10 engines to the Sauber Team in the International Formula One race series.
