NEW GUIDEBOOKS MEET SPECIAL NEEDS OF EXPERIENCED,
 DISCRIMINATING TRAVELERS, BERLITZ EXPERT SAYS
NEW YORK, Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- A new series from Berlitz defines a growing trend in travel publishing -- guidebooks that are directed to a specific audience.
The Berlitz Travellers Guides, according to Alan Tucker, general editor, cater to independent travelers who may be visiting a place for the first time or returning to a favorite destination, but who want to experience that place in much the same way as people who live there.
"These educated travelers already know how to get around, how to pack, how to find out about such things as health certificates and visas," says Tucker. "They are impatient with guidebooks that talk down to them or that tout only the major sights and fail to capture the personality of a place and people."
"We knew that to speak to these discriminating travelers, we needed writers with specific expertise who are both enjoyable to read and capable of evoking the special qualities of the place," says Tucker.
To achieve this, The Berlitz Travellers Guides series uses many writers for each guide -- sometimes as many as 15 different people. "The same team personality researches and updates our revised annual editions so our readers can trust these guides to provide the most current and accurate information," according to Tucker.
The writers offer opinions and insights which allow discerning travelers to make use of the insider information. So finding the new romantic inn in Tuscany's wine country, or visiting London's East End on a Sunday morning to experience the sociological phenomenon of the Petticoat Lane market, or knowing where to shop for a vast selection of traditional French kitchen and table items at almost wholesale prices, are just some of the delights awaiting readers of these guides.
To discover these places and much more, 18 guidebooks in the 1992 series are available for travelers heading to the Caribbean, Hawaii, England & Wales, Mexico, Australia, New York City, London, Ireland, San Francisco, Canada, France, Germany, Turkey, Northern Italy, Southern Italy, Greece, Spain, or Portugal.
