NEW CSU TO PLAY ROLE IN LAND-USE DEBATES.

OXNARD - California State University, Channel Islands California State University, Channel Islands (CSUCI) is a university located in Camarillo, California, in California's Ventura County. CSUCI opened in 2002 as the twenty-third campus in the California State University system, succeeding the Ventura County branch campus of , will play a pivotal role in growth discussions within Ventura County and offer agriculture courses through its business department, J. Besides dedicating a faculty post to land-use issues, Evans said, the university will have classes dealing with land-use issues.

``We will train graduate students to go out and tackle those issues,'' Evans said.''

And while the campus is being developed in Ventura County, where agriculture in the No. 1 industry, it will design an agriculture curriculum through its School of Business rather than creating a separate School of Agriculture. Other CSU See DSU/CSU.

``The need for us to emulate those programs is not there,'' Evans said. ``It would be silly for us to reinvent the wheel (jargon) reinvent the wheel - To design or implement a tool equivalent to an existing one or part of one, with the implication that doing so is silly or a waste of time. Evans also updated the audience about progress on the university, including scheduled interviews with 59 job candidates vying for 23 faculty posts. The interviews will include a meeting with Richard Rush

The first generation of faculty members will help establish such programs as business administration, life science, computer science, education, social science and humanities.

``This group of faculty will be responsible laying down the foundation groundwork for our undergraduate programs,'' said Ira Schienwald, associate vice president for academic resources. ``We'll put out a call for our teaching faculty the following year.''
