NEW COMPUTERS TO SPEED FAMILY TREE SEARCHES.Byline: Daily News LANCASTER - The Lancaster Stake Family History Center tonight will show off five new networked computers that speed up the search for ancestors. The new system enables patrons to download family pedigrees from the Ancestral File software and individual information from the International Genealogical Index The International Genealogical Index (IGI) is a database of genealogical records, compiled from a variety of different sources, and maintained by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. . ``As I worked on my grandmother's line in Ancestral File, I handled a minimum of six CDs to collect the information to build the pedigree chart A pedigree chart is a chart which tells one all of the known phenotypes for an organism and its ancestors, most commonly humans, show dogs, and race horses. The word pedigree is a corruption of the French "pied de gru" or crane's foot, because the typical lines and split lines on the computer. That alone could take up to 15 minutes. And that was just preparation before I could actually start working on the line,'' director Lynn Gardner said. ``But with our new system, three seconds after I type in Grandma's name, all the information flashes on the screen.''
