PALMDALE -- Looking to keep standards up and crime down, Palmdale will add another code enforcement Code Enforcement is the act of enforcing a set of s, principles, or laws (especially written ones) and insuring observance of a system of norms or customs. Palmdale will spend about $58,000 through the remainder of this fiscal year, which ends in June, to bring in the additional code enforcement staffer. The new position will bring the total code enforcement staff to seven.

``Our city is about building value and code enforcement builds value,'' Mayor Jim Ledford said.

Councilman Steve Hofbauer said he thinks the city needs to add more.

``I was hoping we could get a second code enforcement officer and reduce the lag time when they do get busy and be more proactive,'' Hofbauer said. ``I was looking to get ahead of the curve.''

A focus for the new position will be addressing concerns regarding the operation and maintenance of commercial centers, said Asoka Herath, the city's planning director.

In addition to addressing shopping centers shopping center, a concentration of retail, service, and entertainment enterprises designed to serve the surrounding region. The modern shopping center differs from its antecedents—bazaars and marketplaces—in that the shops are usually amalgamated into , the new position will help the city address issues such as compliance with sign ordinances, street vendors, illegal parking and garage- sale signs.

In recent months, both Palmdale and Lancaster have taken actions to increase the size of their code enforcement staffs. In recent months, Palmdale added a code enforcement manager and office assistant to its code enforcement section while Lancaster officials voted to double their code enforcement staff from four to eight positions.
