NEW CHAIRMAN WILL LEAD 34-MILLION-MEMBER AAA

 ORLANDO, Fla., April 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Lawrence B. Lindemer, a former Michigan Supreme Court justice, was elected chairman of the more than 34-million-member American Automobile Association at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress here today.
 Lindemer, who lives in Stockbridge, Mich., was elected by the 1,000 delegates and AAA club officials representing 139 motor clubs in the United States and Canada.
 Van P. Smith of Munci, Ind., was elected vice chairman, and Terry W. Baker of Portland, Ore., was re-elected secretary during AAA's 90th annual meeting.
 Lindemer, of counsel to the Lansing, Mich., law firm of Foster, Swift, Collins and Smith, is a former Michigan state legislator who joined the AAA board in 1988. He has been a director of AAA Michigan since 1977 and is a past chairman of that club.
 Smith, chairman of the Ontario Corp. in Muncie, Ind., serves as chairman of the Colgate University Board of Trustees and is past chairman of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. He has been a director of the AAA Hoosier Motor Club since 1980 and currently is vice chairman.
 A founding partner in the law firm of Tonkon, Torp, Galen, Marmaduke and Booth in Portland, Ore., Baker was college football's 1962 Heisman Trophy winner from Oregon State. He has been a director of the Automobile Club of Oregon since 1988.
 Elected to new three-year terms on the board of directors were: Marguerite E. Dispenza of Buffalo, N.Y., and William E. Selby of Calgary, Alberta. Thomas V. McKernan of Los Angeles was elected to fill a two-year unexpired term.
 Re-elected to three-year terms were: William B. Graham of Irvington, Va.; Edward L. Jones Jr. of Philadelphia; and Dwight D. Sutherland of St. Louis.
 Officers and directors assume their duties immediately upon election.
 AAA is a not-for-profit, fully tax-paying federation in the U.S. and Canada with travel, insurance, financial and auto-related services.
