NEW CAMT COURSE II: BASIC REPAIRS AND MAINTENANCE.PROGRAM OUTLINES Although all four programs can be offered as stand-alone programs, we strongly recommend that participants who attend the Basic Maintenance and Repairs series in this curriculum, attend the Basic Electric Repairs and Replacements program first. An understanding of electricity and electrical safety is necessary for all the programs in the series. BASIC ELECTRICAL REPAIRS AND REPLACEMENTS The purpose of this program is to introduce participants to the most common electrical make-ready tasks for a technical service team member with up to a year of experience. This program will concentrate on electrical make-ready tasks on the apartment side of the service panel--up to 110-120 volt volt [for Alessandro Volta], abbr. V, unit of electric potential and electromotive force. It is defined as the difference of electric potential existing across the ends of a conductor carrying a constant current of 1 ampere when the power dissipated is 1 watt. circuits with just a brief discussion on 220-240 volt circuits. Trouble-shooting will be limited to individual electrical parts or fixtures. Main Program Topics * Electrical system for an apartment home * Electrical safety * Electrical circuits * Electrical parts * Basic wiring and electrical repairs. APPLIANCE INTRODUCTION AND PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE The routine checking of hardware that is performed by a field engineer on a regularly scheduled basis. See remedial maintenance. preventive maintenance - (PM) To bring down a machine for inspection or test purposes. See provocative maintenance, scratch monkey. The purpose of the program is to introduce you to the make-ready tasks for major appliances A major appliance is usually defined as a large machine which accomplishes some routine housekeeping task, which includes purposes such as cooking, food preservation, or cleaning, whether in a household, institutional, commercial or industrial setting. that a technical service team member with up to one year of experience usually does. In this program, we will concentrate on identification of parts, sequence of operations, preventive maintenance, and some minor adjustments and replacements for the major appliances typically found in an apartment home. Main Program Topics * Electric ranges * Gas stoves * Microwave ovens * Range hoods and exhaust fans * Refrigerators * Ice makers * Dishwashers * Clothes washers * Gas and electric clothes dryers HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning) In the home or small office with a handful of computers, HVAC is more for human comfort than the machines. In large datacenters, a humidity-free room with a steady, cool temperature is essential for the trouble-free INTRODUCTION AND PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE The purpose of the program is to introduce you to the HVAC (Heating-Ventilation-Air Conditioning) make-ready tasks that a technical service team member with up to one year of experience usually does. In this program, we will concentrate on identification of parts, sequence of operations, preventive maintenance, and some minor adjustments and replacements for basic heating and cooling systems cooling systems for housed animals include spraying of roofs with water, evaporative pads with fans, foggers and misters; for pastured animals shelter from the sun by trees or artificial shade devices and cooling ponds are used. used for apartment homes. Main Program Topics * Baseboard base·board n. A molding that conceals the joint between an interior wall and the floor. Also called mopboard. Noun 1. heat (electric, hydronic hy·dron·ic adj. Of or relating to a heating or cooling system that transfers heat by circulating a fluid through a closed system of pipes. [hydr(o)- + -onic (as in electronic).] ) * Forced air heat (gas, electric, hydronic) * Basic cooling system cooling system: see air conditioning; internal-combustion engine; refrigeration. cooling system Apparatus used to keep the temperature of a structure or device from exceeding limits imposed by needs of safety and efficiency. * Room air conditioner conditioner, n 1. an additive substance used to increase the effectiveness of another substance. 2. a substance added to enamel that improves a sealant's ability to adhere. * Split cooling system * Split heat pump heat pump: see air conditioning. heat pump Device for transferring heat from a substance or space at one temperature to another at a higher temperature. system * Packaged outdoor systems * Through-the-wall system BASIC PLUMBING REPAIRS AND REPLACEMENTS The purpose of the program is to introduce you to the most common plumbing make-ready tasks for technical service team members with up to one year of experience. In this program, we will concentrate on plumbing make-ready tasks inside the apartment home. We will not discuss repairs or replacements that require complex trouble-shooting or involve potentially major safety hazards for persons or property. Main Program Topics * Plumbing systems for the apartment home * Plumbing safety * Plumbing materials * Faucets, sinks and disposals, and lavatories * Toilets * Tubs and showers * Drain cleaning * Preventive maintenance for water heaters. |
