NEW BASIS(TM) FLEA CONTROL PRODUCT AVAILABLE THROUGH VETS NEW PRODUCT ALLOWS PRE-SEASON FLEA CONTROL BOTH IN AND OUT OF DOORS

GREENSBORO, N.C., March 19 /PRNewswire/ -- A new flea control product that prevents flea eggs and larvae from hatching into adults is now available through veterinarians. BASIS(TM) Flea Growth Regulator contains the insect growth regulator (IGR) fenoxycarb as its only active ingredient.
Insect growth regulators control flea populations in the environment by preventing immature fleas from developing into adults. Immature fleas represent 95 percent of the flea population. The remaining five percent are adults. Since it is the adult flea that bites the pet and causes discomfort, it is essential to control fleas before they mature, according to Ciba Animal Health, which is introducing BASIS.
Ideal for use prior to flea season, the new inverted aerosol allows the applicator to deliver a forceful spray deep into carpets and upholstery where immature fleas are usually found. Once applied, the product is effective against eggs and larvae for a full season. And because BASIS Flea Growth Regulator is not degraded rapidly by sunlight, it can also be used in kennels and doghouses.
Besides being a nuisance to pets and their owners, flea bites are the leading cause of dermatitis in dogs. Adult fleas can also spread tapeworm, a common intestinal parasite, to dogs and cats.
For more information on flea control and the complete line of BASIS flea control products, contact your veterinarian. As with any flea product, to maximize effectiveness, it is important to read the label before use.
Based in Greensboro, N.C., Ciba Animal Health's goal is to better serve veterinary medicine by providing state-of-the-art medications for small animals. In addition to the BASIS line, Ciba markets Interceptor(R), a monthly protection for heartworms, hookworms, roundworms and whipworms in dogs. Interceptor and BASIS are available through veterinarians.
