NEW AREA GENERAL MANAGER OF CALIFORNIA NAMED FOR GTE MOBILNET'S PACIFIC REGION

 PLEASANTON, Calif., Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- GTE Mobilnet has named Ben Kahrnoff area general manager - California for its Pacific Region based in Pleasanton. In his new position, Kahrnoff will direct sales and service operations for all markets which comprise the California area. These include the counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Monterey, Napa, San Francisco, San Luis Obispo, San Mateo, Santa Barbara, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano and Sonoma. Kahrnoff will also have responsibility for all points of distribution for California.
 Kahrnoff reports to Russ Patridge, vice president, general manager of GTE Mobilnet's Pacific Region. The area general manager's position supports the needs of a market-focused organization. Three market managers and a general manager of California's Central Coast will report to Kahrnoff.
 Kahrnoff, a Contra Costa resident, is a nine-year veteran of GTE Mobilnet. Kahrnoff joined GTE Mobilnet in Houston in 1984, transferring to GTE Mobilnet's Midwest Region as a sales manager in 1985. He was promoted to manager, Marketing and Customer Relations in 1987, and to manager Marketing and Distribution in 1990. Most recently, Kahrnoff was acting area general manager for the Pacific Northwest.

 Kahrnoff holds a B.A. in business administration from Michigan State University.
 GTE Mobilnet Pacific Region -- the only cellular provider to service all 11 Bay Area counties as a single carrier -- owns and operates the largest toll-free cellular network in Northern California. As the first company to initiate cellular service in the San Francisco Bay Area (April 1985), the company provides more than 10,000 square miles of toll-free cellular coverage.
