NEW AND NOTEWORTHY.

NEW FRITES: Recently while perusing the aisles at Trader Joe's Trader Joe's is a privately held chain of specialty grocery stores headquartered in Monrovia, California. As of September 2007, Trader Joe's has a total of 284 stores.[1]  I came across Terra Red Bliss Olive Oil olive oil, pale yellow to greenish oil obtained from the pulp of olives by separating the liquids from solids. Olive oil was used in the ancient world for lighting, in the preparation of food, and as an anointing oil for both ritual and cosmetic purposes. , Sun-Dried Tomatoes & Balsamic Vinegar balsamic vinegar

Potato Chips. I picked up a 5-ounce bag for $1.99 and proceeded to indulge. They were unique, flavorful and delicious. Although they are billed on the label as having 30 percent less fat than other potato chips, a serving of 12 to 13 chips has 140 calories (60 calories from fat) and 7 grams fat. The Red Bliss also come in two other flavors - Olive Oil, Roasted Garlic & Parmesan; and Olive Oil and Fines Herbs - both of which I found to be overbearing and unappealing flavor-wise.

The newest darlings from the folks at Terra Chips are Terra Frites - in four flavors - Americaine (a blend of tomatoes, sweet onions and spices); Malt Vinegar (a combo of malt vinegar and sea salt); Seasoned Salt (sea salt, black pepper, herbs and a hint of garlic); and Aioli ai·o·li
n.
A rich sauce of crushed garlic, egg yolks, lemon juice, and olive oil.

[Provençal : ai, garlic (from Latin allium) + oli, oil (from Latin oleum
(a blend of garlic and saffron with a touch of mustard). Fashioned after Belgian-style frites, these potato sticks are made from Yukon Gold and European Bintje potatoes. They have a crispy, crunchy texture. Each 1-ounce serving (45 pieces) has 150 calories and 8 grams fat.

The hands-down favorite with tasters was the Americaine flavor followed by the Malt Vinegar. The other two flavors were rather lackluster. Packaged in 6-ounce bags, suggested retail is $2.99 each. Look for them at Vons.
