NEW AIR CANADA SYSTEM ADVISES PASSENGERS IN FLIGHT OF MISHANDLED BAGGAGE
MONTREAL, Sept. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Air Canada has just introduced DataCare, a new baggage recovery system which advises passengers in flight of mishandled or misplaced luggage to airline personnel at the passenger's final destination and wait for the customer to arrive.
With DataCare, a message is now sent directly to the aircraft cockpit via DataPlus, Air Canada's exclusive ground-to-air communications system.
The pilot receives a computer printout containing a note of apology to the customer's name and seat number, along with a description of the item and a revised arrival flight for the mishandled or misplaced piece of luggage. A flight attendant then presents it to the passenger in a special folder.
The same information is still sent forward to the passenger's ultimate destination as before. Upon arrival, the traveler can go directly to the baggage agent for assistance.
"This service is an industry first, and a direct response to surveys which show passengers want to be advised as soon as possible of any delay to their luggage," said Wally Brechun, Air Canada's aircraft and baggage services manager.
