 NEW ACHIEVA GAINS POPULARITY NATIONWIDE
 LANSING, Mich., Feb. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Oldsmobile's all-new Achieva

compact is off to a fast start with over 2,900 sales nationwide in just its first month on the market. More importantly, nearly a quarter, or 680, of those sales came in Los Angeles and San Francisco zones.
Oldsmobile General Manager Mike Losh and 80 Oldsmobile and Lansing Automotive Division employees personally delivered the first Achievas to buyers in Los Angeles and San Francisco in late December which was the beginning of a major West Coast launch.
"I'm particularly encouraged by our sales in the tough California market," said Losh. "With the Achieva, we have a car designed and built in America and it's going to take on any competitor from anywhere in the world and it's going to win."
Losh added that dealer enthusiasm for the Achieva has led to an order bank literally overflowing with Achieva orders.
"In addition to the 12,900 Achievas on the ground or in transit, there are another 10,500 in the production system and 27,000 in the order bank," said Losh. "Our dealers see customers trading in their Accords and Camrys for the Achieva and they're taking as many as we can build."
The Achieva is priced to aggressively compete with other compact cars both foreign and domestic: base price for the Achieva S is $12,715; the SL starts at $14,495; and the exciting Sport Coupe starts at $14,610. For the performance lover, an Achieva SCX will be available in the spring for $15,190.
In addition, consumers can lease an Achieva S with Quad OHC engine, automatic transmission, air conditioning and many other features with no down payment for $199 a month for 48 months.
All Achievas have many standard features including anti-lock brakes, automatic door locks, power door locks, child security rear door locks on the sedan and an innovative self-aligning steering wheel.
"There's a pent-up demand in this country for a stylish, intelligently engineered compact car that's priced right and built right here in America," added Losh. "We're fortunate to have that car in Oldsmobile showrooms."
