NETWORK WORLD LAUNCHES NETACCESS INTERACTIVE ADVERTISING
FRAMINGHAM, Mass., July 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Network World today announced the availability of NetACCESS Interactive Advertising on its electronic bulletin board service (BBS). The system gives vendors a new way to market their products and readers a chance to interact with demos before they buy.
The first products available through the new service are demonstration copies of the latest versions of Lotus Development Corp.'s cc:Mail MS DOS Platform Pack and cc:Mail Windows Platform Pack, and Communications Devices Inc.'s Network Windows package for Network Management. More software will be added in the near future, including a demonstration copy of Lotus Notes.
Any vendor advertising in Network World can place a demonstration diskette onto the bulletin board free of charge for up to one month.
Anyone with a personal computer and a modem can dial in to access the demonstration software by using BBS numbers published each week in Network World on page two. The demonstrations are listed under the bulletin board's existing download menu, which also offers callers access to various shareware programs.
"NetACCESS gives users a way to test-drive products before they buy, and vendors who advertise in Network World get an entirely new, interactive way to market their products," said Network World President Colin Ungaro. "This new service reinforces our dedication to being the most useful publication to our readers, and an invaluable, innovative marketing partner to our advertisers."
In just two weeks, since the NetACCESS service started on June 15, more than three dozen people have called in to get demonstration software from it. This is only a small percentage of the 5,000 readers who use the Network World BBS each month to submit letters to the editor, leave change of address requests, interact with other readers and hunt for jobs. However, the number is expected to grow rapidly as people learn about the new, interactive marketing service, Ungaro said.
Network World also will provide BBS icons to go on ads of participating NetACCESS advertisers. The icons will clearly identify products advertised as ones that are easily available for demonstration through the NetACCESS service.
Shelley Harrison, cc:Mail director of marketing for Lotus Development Corp., said, "We are continuously seeking to expand our audience for cc:Mail. Network World reaches an extremely influential audience that is growing more interactive every day. NetACCESS allows us to put the product in additional hands."
