IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 9, 2000

NETAPHOR SOFTWARE INC inc - /ink/ increment, i.e. increase by one. Especially used by assembly programmers, as many assembly languages have an "inc" mnemonic.

Antonym: dec.
. Tuesday announced their MetaConsole(TM) technology that enables a snap-in for management of Toshiba digital copier products to integrate with multiple management consoles on multiple operating system operating system (OS)

 platforms.

The development of management consoles was an enormous step in network device management. Before consoles, each vendor would provide a separate management utility for its devices, and system administrators had to master multiple utilities.

Providing snap-ins that cover all the bases -- Microsoft Management Console A Windows NT/2000 feature that provides a common environment for running management software from Microsoft and third parties. Any type of administration service such as network management, antivirus management, disk management and authentication can be created as a Microsoft Management  (MMC See MultiMediaCard and Microsoft Management Console. ), HP OpenView HP OpenView was a Hewlett Packard product range consisting of an extensive portfolio of network and systems management products. In 2007 the entire HP OpenView portfolio was rebranded under the strengthened HP Software name. , Tivoli, Novell ConsoleOne, and other management solutions, as well as SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) A widely used network monitoring and control protocol. Data are passed from SNMP agents, which are hardware and/or software processes reporting activity in each network device (hub, router, bridge, etc.  and other protocols -- can be a massive and costly effort.

MetaConsole is based on a paradigm of optimal design and code reuse Code reuse, also called software reuse, is the use of existing software, or software knowledge, to build new software. Ad hoc reuse has been practiced from the earliest days of programming. Programmers have always reused sections of code, templates, functions, and procedures. . Snap-ins share a large core of implemented modules, and any individual snap-in requires relatively little code specific to the devices and the platform.

"We are happy to extend our long standing relationship with Toshiba with support for their devices in MetaConsole. We believe that this will help Toshiba provide a complete line of management products for its coming SC-2 and future controllers," said Lorraine Barrett Lorraine Barrett (b. 18 March 1950) is a Labour Co-operative Member of the Welsh Assembly for Cardiff South and Penarth. , NETAPHOR's vice president of product development.

"Toshiba realizes the market demand for unified network management tools and the importance in supplying our customers with networking options. I am excited about using NETAPHOR's new MetaConsole technolgy to enable Toshiba network printing devices to be managed by a network administrator's utility of choice," said Louis Ormond, Toshiba's development partnerships manager.

Release timing and information regarding the Toshiba device supporting MetaConsole snap-ins will be made available through regular Toshiba sales and dealer channels.

In addition to Toshiba's products, MetaConsole snap-ins have been developed for digital copiers, printers, routers, hubs, Windows NT servers and factory floor devices. Any vendor that offers MetaConsole snap-ins for a given console can provide its customers with all vendors' snap-ins for that console.

A vendor that licenses MetaConsole for MMC, for example, can point its customers to NETAPHOR's Web site to download Toshiba products snap-ins for MMC. With this cooperative arrangement, any vendor can offer its customers the convenience of single-console network device management.

Vendors that purchase MetaConsole snap-ins from NETAPHOR pay a one-time licensing fee per console and a one-time customization fee per device. There are no royalties. Having paid the customization fee for a device, a vendor can add support for more consoles at any time, paying only the licensing fees for those consoles.

In addition to MetaConsole(TM) snap-ins, NETAPHOR develops reusable Cyberons(TM) components for Microsoft Windows applications; Web-based applications; and custom solutions for networking, factory automation, and embedded systems.

NETAPHOR prides itself on fully understanding the needs of its customers, which include Fortune 500 companies, and focuses on rapid time to market and maximal return on investment. For further information, visit http://www.netaphor.com.
