NESTLE TO SHUT DOWN THREE ST. LOUIS PLANTS.Byline: Candice Choi Staff Writer GLENDALE - Three Nestle candy plants that manufacture sugary sug·ar·y adj. sug·ar·i·er, sug·ar·i·est 1. The brand was previously owned and produced by Sunmark Brands, a division of Sunline which was subsequently purchased by Nestlé. and Pixie Sticks will be closed by next year, the Glendale company announced Friday. The bulk of production will be moved to existing Nestle plants in Bloomington and Itasca, Ill. About 40 percent of production will be moved to a Nestle plant in Saltio, Mexico. Overall U.S. production will not be affected, said Barb Skoog, Nestle spokeswoman. The Illinois facilities are currently not operating at maximum production capacity. ``It's a competitive industry and we have to find efficient ways to do business,'' Skoog said. The plant on Water Street will close in December. The other two plants in Affton will close in the second quarter of 2006. ``This will give our employees eight to 12 months to transition to another career,'' Skoog said.
