A new technical program developed by the IEEE and ASTE offers sessions on PXI (PCI EXtensions for Instrumentation) A peripheral bus specialized for data acquisition and real time control systems. Introduced in 1997, PXI uses the CompactPCI 3U and 6U form factors and adds trigger lines, a local bus and other functions suited for measurement , military testing, functional test and strategies for testing limited access boards. The Fundamentals of Fiber Optic Interconnection, sponsored by the IICIT, offers a review of fiber optic technology with a detailed look at connection aspects. The Northeast Chapter of the ESD Association will present Dispelling Common ESD Myths. The SMTA is organizing three events for SMTA Boston, held in conjunction with NEPCON East/Electro 2002. First, the SMTA Academy will offer a variety of full- and half-day sessions on many industry topics. A two-day Emerging Technologies Symposium, also developed by SMTA, will discuss the most recent advances in electronic and optoelectronic assembly technologies. The Third Annual Advanced Technology Symposium will feature experts from the packaging industry who will discuss the most recent advances in electronic and optoelectronic assembly technologies. The first day will focus on advanced electronics assembly technologies, and sessions will address materials issues and board assembly. The second day will begin with a look at current reliability issues in board assembly and then focus on optoelectronics. Lastly, Board Talk, with Phil Zarrow and Jim Hall of ITM ITM See: In-the-money Consulting (Durham, NH) on June 11, will cut through the marketing hype and the platitudes of board assembly to further the technical levels of the industry. The cost is $20/$25 for SMTA members/non-members. All proceeds from the forum will be donated to the SMTA's Charles Hutchins Educational Grant.
