NEMA APPLAUDS U.S.-EC PROCUREMENT AGREEMENT

WASHINGTON, April 22 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), representing the heavy electrical equipment manufacturers, is pleased with Ambassador Kantor's announced agreement on government procurement between the United States and the European Community. Commenting on the announcement, NEMA President Dr. Malcolm O'Hagan said: "NEMA is committed to the principle of free and open trade. Consequently we are particularly pleased with Ambassador Kantor's tenacity in pursuing U.S. manufacturers interests in eliminating barriers to trade in heavy electrical equipment with Europe."
The United States industry has been pursuing an end to obstacles to market access in the European Community for over 30 years. Based upon the information currently available, NEMA believes that many of the concerns it raised on behalf of its members have been addressed in the agreement.
NEMA, with headquarters in Washington, is the leading U.S. organization representing and serving America's electroindustry companies.
