Byline: Lisa Van Proyen Daily News Staff Writer

During a public meeting about Cal State Northridge's planned growth, some 50 residents voiced concerns Wednesday night about future traffic and noise, but the focus of the debate was on the relocation RELOCATION, Scotch law, contracts. To let again to renew a lease, is called a relocation.

School officials plan to construct a biotechnology building where the stadium stands and want a replacement stadium, seating 15,000, on the North Campus along Lindley Avenue.

Frank Wein, director of North Campus development, said California State University, Northridge CSUN offers a variety of programs leading to bachelor's degrees in 61 fields and master's degrees in 42 fields. The university has over 150,000 alumni. It's also home to a summer musical theater/theater program known as TADW (TeenAge Drama Workshop) that leads teenagers through an  officials instead may rebuild the stadium in the northeast portion of the main campus - in part because of public pressure, but also to keep it near other athletic facilities.

School officials spent Wednesday night giving the public an overview of their goals and of the master draft of an environmental impact report about the plan, and they listened to area residents' feedback.

The campus master plan calls for four new buildings, including a College of Arts, Media and Communications designed by renowned architect Robert M. Stern, creator of the Disney animation studio Animation studio can refer to:

Also planned are a new administration building and an information-technology resource building, replacing wings of the Oviatt Library The Oviatt Library (Delmar T. Today it features over 1.2 million volumes in its collection. , as well as a College of Health and Human Development - all to be on the main campus.

The plan also calls for converting the former administration building into a student-services building, creating a loop road and improving lighting and landscaping.

Also under the plan, portions of the North Campus would be leased to biotechnology and entertainment-industry companies for sound stages, post-production offices and classrooms for movies and television production.

Construction of the new buildings is scheduled to begin in May - with $346 million expected in federal and state recovery funds, stemming from the Northridge Earthquake The Northridge earthquake occurred on January 17, 1994 at 4:31 AM Pacific Standard Time in the city of Los Angeles, California. The earthquake had a "strong" moment magnitude of 6. . The makeover is scheduled for completion in December 1999.

While many residents support rebuilding the campus in the wake of the earthquake, some cautioned university officials Wednesday that growth should be well-managed.

Those wanting to register their comments on the plans can do so until March 20.
