NEC ships CompCore's MPEG-1 software with its new PC-9800 series desktop computer.


SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 4, 1995--CompCore Multimedia Inc. today announced that NEC (NEC Corporation, Tokyo, www.nec.com, www.necus.com) An electronics conglomerate known in the U.S. for its monitors. In Japan, it had the lion's share of the PC market until the late 1990s (see PC 98).

 Corporation, the leading manufacturer of desktop personal computers in Japan, is now shipping CompCore's "SoftPEG" MPEG-1 video and audio player software with its popular PC-9800 Series of personal computers.

NEC recently launched its latest version of Japan's number one selling PC, the PC-9800 Series desktop computer. Nine new machines available in 28 models will bundle CompCore's SoftPEG MPEG-1 player. SoftPEG is a software MPEG-1 video and audio decoder developed by CompCore which allows PC users to play high quality video and stereo audio CDs without requiring additional specialized chips or boards.

Video CD is an established standard CD format which can play full motion video by using the Compact Disc (CD) format. The latest version of this CD format, Video CD 2.0, supports the ability to navigate through numerous MPEG video files allowing the user to make playback control decisions through pre-programmed menus. CompCore's new Video CD 2.0 version of SoftPEG now features end user interactivity for video CDs which is important for entertainment, training and educational applications.
