NEC reduces prices on its Versa P, Versa M and Versa V notebook computers.

 Technologies Friday announced it has reduced the prices on its Versa Versa Versatile System Architecture (Genrad)  P, Versa M and Versa V notebook computers A laptop computer that weighs in a range from five to seven pounds. The term originated when laptops were routinely more than 10 pounds, and those that became lighter were placed in a special "notebook" category. In practice, notebook computer and laptop computer are synonymous.  by up to 12 percent, effective immediately.

The new Versa P offers top performance with Intel's new updated 75MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc.  Pentium processor, complemented with 256K external cache A cache that is not built into the CPU chip. It resides on the motherboard. See cache. , and a choice of NEC's industry-first Versa Vision High-Resolution 800x600 TFT or 640x480 active-matrix TFT with over 65,000 colors. The Versa Vision High-Resolution screen allows users to see 53 percent more information on screen, without panning or scrolling (chat, games) scrolling - To flood a chat room or Internet game with text or macros in an attempt to annoy the occupants. This can often cause the chat room to be "uninhabitable" due to the "noise" created by the scroller. Compare spam. .

Currently, NEC is the sole supplier of this notebook display technology. The Versa P also is an effective multimedia system, with high-level graphics performance and a built-in Sound Blaster A very popular family of sound cards from Creative Labs. In the days of DOS, Sound Blaster was the de facto interface for gaming sounds. Monaural Sound Blaster cards were introduced in 1989, and stereo cards followed in 1992 (Sound Blaster Pro).  compatible sound system. All systems come with 8 MB RAM which is user-upgradeable to 40 MB, and up to an 810 MB hard drive.

The Versa M features multimedia capabilities, IntelDX4 75MHz or 100MHz processor power and a choice of four VersaVision displays, including two industry firsts: VersaVision TrueColor display with 16 million brilliant colors and photographic quality, and VersaVision High-Resolution 800x600 TFT display. The Versa M comes with an internal high-fidelity speaker and microphone, a hard disk of up to 810 MB, and 8 MB RAM, user-upgradeable to 40 MB.

The Versa V offers outstanding performance in its price range. The notebook comes with the IntelDX2 50 MHz or Intel DX4 75MHz processors, a choice of a DSTN (1) (Dual-scan STN) An enhanced STN passive matrix LCD display. The screen is divided into halves, and each half is scanned simultaneously, thereby doubling the number of lines refreshed per second and providing a sharper appearance.  display with 256 colors or an active-matrix TFT screen capable of displaying over 65,000 colors, up to a 540 MB hard drive, and 4 MB RAM, user-upgradeable to 36 MB. As with the Versa P and Versa M, the Versa V offers many user upgradeable options and docking capabilities.
