NEC and Ubiquisys to Collaborate in Femtocell Solutions.

LONDON & SWINDON, England -- NEC (NEC Corporation, Tokyo, www.nec.com, www.necus.com) An electronics conglomerate known in the U.S. for its monitors. In Japan, it had the lion's share of the PC market until the late 1990s (see PC 98).

NEC was founded in Tokyo in 1899 as Nippon Electric Company, Ltd.
Corporation, a leading provider of 3G infrastructure and handsets, internet, broadband network and enterprise business solutions and Ubiquisys Ltd., the developer of residential 3G access points (femtocells), today announced a strategic collaboration to deliver femtocell solutions worldwide.

NEC will offer the Ubiquisys ZoneGate femtocell as part of its 3G Home Gateway Solutions portfolio.

The Ubiquisys femtocell is a small 'zero-touch' plug-and-play 3G access point that uses a mobile subscriber's xDSL connection to transport voice and data calls to the 3G core network using a range of standards based interfaces.

The partnership solution enables mobile operators to drive fixed-mobile convergence services, increase their 3G coverage in homes, and improve customer loyalty by taking control of the gateway of the networked home, allowing further bundling of premium services.

"NEC's 3G offering is about providing best of breed technology that will help drive new revenue streams for our customers," said Tadatoshi Fujiwara, General Manager of Mobile Network Solutions Division, NEC. "The Ubiquisys femtocell access point cuts the cost of 3G deployment and call provision, and enables operators to offer aggressive, home-zone packages which drive fixed-mobile substitution Substitution
