NEC Technologies chooses Alliance ProMotion for new multimedia PCs.


SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 21, 1995--Alliance Semiconductor Corp. announced today that NEC (NEC Corporation, Tokyo, www.nec.com, www.necus.com) An electronics conglomerate known in the U.S. for its monitors. In Japan, it had the lion's share of the PC market until the late 1990s (see PC 98).

 Technologies Inc. has chosen Alliance's ProMotion-6422 video graphics accelerator for the new Ready multimedia PC systems for family, entertainment and home office use.

ProMotion's multimedia acceleration gives the new NECT (NEC Technologies, Inc.) The name of the former North American subsidiary of NEC that specialized in monitors, data projectors and printers. NEC promotes the Ready line as "the ultimate in multimedia computing," featuring powerful Pentium processors, high-quality, fully-integrated multimedia hardware and pre-loaded software for exceptional power and ease-of-use. For fast and crystal clear color video, the Ready systems offer 64-bit graphics with built-in support for MPEG-1 motion video acceleration and up to 2MB video RAM. The new models are available now at leading retailers including Circuit City, CompUSA, Office Depot and selected regional outlets.

ProMotion-6422 is a high-performance, 64-bit integrated Windows accelerator with built-in hardware acceleration for MPEG-1 motion video playback and scaling. ProMotion is designed to seamlessly accelerate graphics and multimedia applications under Microsoft's Windows 95, Windows 3.X and other operating environments.

ProMotion-6422 accelerates Windows displays up to 1280 x 1024 resolution at 8 bits per pixel (hardware, graphics) bits per pixel - (bpp) The number of bits of information stored per pixel of an image or displayed by a graphics adapter. The more bits there are, the more colours can be represented, but the more memory is required to store or display the image. , and up to 1024 x 768 resolution at 24 bits per pixel truecolor.
