NEC Technologies Announces Versa Notebook Computer Product Promotions and Price Reductions.


MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 3, 1996--NEC Technologies, Inc. (NECT (NEC Technologies, Inc.) The name of the former North American subsidiary of NEC that specialized in monitors, data projectors and printers. For more information, visit www.necdisplay.com. See NEC. ) announced today product promotions on its award-winning Versa Versa Versatile System Architecture (Genrad)  4000 Series and 2200 Series of notebook computers and price reductions on its Versa 4000 Series of notebook computers.

The product promotions offer free memory upgrades with the purchase of NEC's Versa 4000 Series and Versa 2200C notebook computer and a free MediaDock 2000 with the purchase of a NEC (NEC Corporation, Tokyo, www.nec.com, www.necus.com) An electronics conglomerate known in the U.S. for its monitors. In Japan, it had the lion's share of the PC market until the late 1990s (see PC 98).

From now until July 31, 1996, customers purchasing a NEC Versa 4000 notebook computer may receive an 8MB memory upgrade free. Estimated selling price of NEC's 8MB memory upgrade is $475. From now until June 30, 1996, customers purchasing a NEC Versa 2200C may receive a 4MB memory upgrade free. Estimated selling price of NEC's 4MB memory upgrade is $269. Additionally, from now until August 31, 1996, customers purchasing NEC Versa 2205C notebook computers may receive a free MediaDock 2000 multimedia dock. NEC's MediaDock has an estimated selling price of $599(a).

The Versa 4000 Series carries Intel's Pentium processors running at 120MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc.  and 90MHz. The Versa 4000 marks NEC's sixth generation of modular, cross-generation compatible notebook computers. In 1993, NEC created a de facto standard Hardware or software that is widely used, but not endorsed by a standards organization. Contrast with de jure standard.

NEC's Value Line of Notebook Computers

NEC also offers three notebooks in its value series of notebook computers -- the Versa 2200C, Versa 2205C and Versa 550D. The NEC Versa 2200C and Versa 2205C, priced at $2,449 and $2,499 respectively, provide mainstream corporate users and more sophisticated home users Pentium-level performance that provides the best investment protection available.

The MediaDock 2000 transforms the NEC Versa 2205C into a desktop multimedia system. In addition to providing full port replication, the MediaDock 2000 contains an internal 4X CD-ROM drive, stereo line in and line out, microphone and headphone See headphones.  jacks, a power amplifier and multimedia speakers. Availability and Warranty

NEC Versa 2200C and 4000 Series of notebook computers are currently available through NEC's nationwide network of authorized resellers.

In the U.S. and Canada, UltraCare includes a toll-free hot line to request service 24 hours a day, seven days a week as well as free overnight pickup and return and repair of the NEC Versa notebook computer within one business day after arrival at the service depot.
