NEC Launches Innovative Next Generation Messaging Solution, "IP Messaging".Tokyo, Japan, Feb 9, 2007 - (JCN JCN Japan Corporate News JCN Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience JCN Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing JCN Journal of Christian Nursing JCN Job Control Number JCN Journal of Child Neurology JCN joint communications network (US DoD) Newswire) - NEC (NEC Corporation, Tokyo, www.nec.com, www.necus.com) An electronics conglomerate known in the U.S. for its monitors. In Japan, it had the lion's share of the PC market until the late 1990s (see PC 98). NEC was founded in Tokyo in 1899 as Nippon Electric Company, Ltd. Corporation announced that it has launched innovative next generation messaging solution "IP Messaging". NEC's IP Messaging solution draws together the best and most effective aspects of SMS (1) (Storage Management System) Software used to routinely back up and archive files. See HSM. (2) (Systems Management Server) Systems management software from Microsoft that runs on Windows NT Server. and MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) An enhanced transmission service that enables graphics, video clips and sound files to be transmitted via cellphones. Developed as part of the 3GPP project, MMS phones are generally backward compatible with SMS and EMS. brings it to life with mobile IM. By incorporating a familiar user interface based on popular SMS schemes and then seamlessly integrating the other messaging types within a single client and user experience, IP Messaging by its very nature will drive, usage, acceptance and favour by subscribers. Furthermore, since the NEC solution enables the service to interwork with the various existing messaging types (SMS, MMS and mobile IM), IP Messaging will network with the mobile operators' existing messaging infrastructure as well as the messaging system of other licensed operators, thus enabling worldwide reach. Outliving many analyst predictions, SMS continues to be one of the most successful mainstream mobile services, second only to voice, growing both in terms of usage and reach. However, all is not well for SMS. Price competition and the bundling of services are driving down revenues generated from peer-to-peer SMS. With MMS generally failing to plug the mobile data revenue gap, mobile operators are switching their attention to Mobile Instant Messaging Mobile Instant Messaging abbreviated as MIM is a presence enabled messaging service that aims to transpose the Internet desktop messaging such as ICQ or MSN experience to the usage scenario of being connected via a mobile/cellular device. (IM) to drive up their mobile data revenue. Even with the creative genius of many terminal vendors, there is something of a disconnection between SMS, MMS and other messaging verticals both in terms of revenue and disparate user experience. SMS, whilst being extremely effective in terms of usage and acceptance, has failed to evolve over the past decade and, MMS has fallen short of industry expectation. IM, with its richer interface, has been highly successful in the internet world, and is now - through the attentions of a number of key Internet players and the GSMA- gaining traction in the mobile arena. As an IMS (1) See IP Multimedia Subsystem. (2) (Information Management System) An early IBM hierarchical DBMS for IBM mainframes. In order to avoid any user's confusion, NEC's IP Messaging solution brings a "Pre-IMS" concept, which aims to naturalize nat·u·ral·ize v. nat·u·ral·ized, nat·u·ral·iz·ing, nat·u·ral·iz·es v.tr. 1. IP Messaging solution also realizes a clear migration to OMA (1) See Object Management Architecture. CPM (Converged IP Messaging) system to aim convergence for multi-media messaging service and bring paradigm shift A dramatic change in methodology or practice. It often refers to a major change in thinking and planning, which ultimately changes the way projects are implemented. For example, accessing applications and data from the Web instead of from local servers is a paradigm shift. See paradigm. for messaging service. For NEC IP Messaging represents the future vision and direction in the messaging arena that will allow operators to offer a complete integrated messaging experience and thus capitalize on this lucrative market. Through IP Messaging, subscribers will benefit from an enriched and simplified messaging experience.
