Newswire) - NEC (NEC Corporation, Tokyo, www.nec.com, www.necus.com) An electronics conglomerate known in the U.S. for its monitors. In Japan, it had the lion's share of the PC market until the late 1990s (see PC 98).

NEC was founded in Tokyo in 1899 as Nippon Electric Company, Ltd.
LCD Technologies, Ltd. (NEC LCD Technologies) today announced that in June, it will begin shipping samples of its new 4.3-inch (10.9-centimeters-diagonal) amorphous-silicon, thin-film-transistor (TFT (Thin Film Transistor) The term typically refers to active matrix screens on laptop computers. Active matrix LCD provides a sharper screen display and broader viewing angle than does passive matrix. See LCD and thin film.

The Quarter Video Graphics Array (also known as Quarter VGA or QVGA) is a popular term for a computer display with 320 × 240 resolution.
(WQVGA) display technology and resolution of 480 x 272 pixels.

Next-generation portable display terminals such as personal digital assistants (PDAs), photo viewers and global positioning systems (GPS) require very advanced functionality to be able to store and reproduce large animation files. Therefore, the demand for large screens with higher resolutions and aspect ratios of 16:9 is rising. NEC LCD Technologies has designed its new TFT-LCD TFT-LCD Thin Film Transistor - Liquid Crystal Display  module, the first of its kind, to meet these demands and be the display device of choice in next-generation portable terminal applications.

Major Features

- Wide screen with 16:9 aspect ratio

- High luminance of 350 candelas per square meters (cd/m2) that provides excellent lighting on the liquid crystal panel and in the backlight back·light

- A touch panel that makes the new TFT-LCD module an excellent choice for use in mobile terminals and which can lead to reduced development costs and shorter lead times for manufacturers of portable devices

NEC LCD Technologies will continue to commercialize products with better display technologies and higher functionality, including small LCD modules for portable devices that aim to contribute to a user-friendly networked information society.

The new TFT-LCD module will be displayed at SID 2006 at the Moscone Convention Center, San Francisco, USA, from June 5-9.
