reproduction that has been insufficient in small-sized LCD modules for mobile devices such as mobile phones, PDAs and digital cameras to date.

Downsizing and integration of instrumentation has been achieved by the employment of LTPS that enables a narrower LCD frame than that of amorphous silicon and integration of semiconductor systems on the glass substrate of the TFT LCD enabling a reduction in the number of instrumentation parts built into the new SOG LCD.

Recently, there has been an increase in the adoption of small-sized LCD modules for industrial applications owing to current trends favoring compact devices and portable and handheld instruments, such as professional camcorders. However, it has been difficult for manufacturers to employ conventional LCD modules for

mobile devices in industrial and other applications. NEC LCD Technologies' new SOG LCD has not only succeeded in a downsized model, making it suitable for a range of industrial applications, but also in realizing a superior level of picture quality enabling it to meet the demands of industrial and professional fields.

"Broadcasting and other industrial fields are demanding small-sized SOG LCDs of superior picture quality. In an effort to meet these needs, we at NEC LCD Technologies continue to strive to enhance our SOG technological competence to enable LCD modules that realize and fulfill all of our customer and market needs. We are certain that our new 3.5-inch SOG LCD will enable expanded application of SOG LCDs in these fields, and we are continuously developing our technology toward the provision of even higher dimensional picture quality," said Masaaki Hiroshima, department manager in charge of product planning and marketing, NEC LCD Technologies, Ltd.

The new models will be displayed at Inter BEE 2006, being held at Makuhari Messe, Japan, from November 15 - 17.

About NEC LCD Technologies, Ltd.

NEC LCD Technologies, Ltd. is one of the world's leading providers of high-quality, innovative, active-matrix liquid crystal display An active matrix liquid crystal display (AMLCD) is a type of flat panel display, currently the overwhelming choice of notebook computer manufacturers, due to light weight, very good image quality, wide color gamut, and response time. The term was first used in 1975 by Dr T.  (AM-LCDs) modules for the industrial and high-end monitor markets. The company focuses its development on three core technology areas: ultra-wide viewing angle SFT technology with high luminance and fast response; transflective NLT technology; and adaptive design technology that meet a variety of specialized needs for the flat panel display A thin display screen for computer and TV usage. The first flat panels appeared on laptop computers in the mid-1980s, and the LCD technology became the standard. Stand-alone LCD screens became available for desktop computers in the mid-1990s and exceeded sales of CRTs for the first time  markets. NEC LCD Technologies' worldwide support includes sales and marketing affiliates NEC Electronics America, Inc. (www.am.necel.com) and NEC Electronics Europe (www.eu.necel.com) that offer specialized display solutions to their respective markets. NEC LCD Technologies employs approximately 1,200 people worldwide and offers one of the broadest product portfolios for the medical, factory automation, test and measurement, entertainment, kiosk, POS (1) See point of sale and packet over SONET.
