NEC Corporation to Sell Dynamic Pictures Oxygen 202 Graphics Accelerators in Japan; New OEM Relationship with Leading Workstation Vendor Integrates Oxygen 3D Graphics Accelerator in NEC Express5800 Workstations.

, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 18, 1997--Dynamic Pictures, Inc. today announced that NEC (NEC Corporation, Tokyo, www.nec.com, www.necus.com) An electronics conglomerate known in the U.S. for its monitors. In Japan, it had the lion's share of the PC market until the late 1990s (see PC 98).

Available today from NEC to customers throughout Japan, the Oxygen 202 card can be purchased as an option to the standard NEC Express5800/55 workstation configuration featuring single or dual Intel Pentium(R) II processors.

Based on Dynamic Pictures' revolutionary new Oxygen chip - a highly scalable, pipelined rendering and texture mapping processor - the Oxygen 202 provides maximum 3D graphics performance while offering true-color, double buffered 3D graphics displays at resolutions up to 1280 x 1024 pixels, and 2D graphics resolutions up to 1600x1200 pixels.

Upon its release in January, the Oxygen 202 took over the title of the industry's price-performance leader. The Dynamic Pictures Oxygen 3D Family is comprised of three models: the Oxygen 102, with 8 MB of SDRAM (Synchronous DRAM) A type of dynamic RAM (DRAM) memory chip that has been widely used since the late 1990s. SDRAM chips eliminated wait states by dividing the chip into two cell blocks and interleaving data between them.  and a single Oxygen chip; the Oxygen 202, with 16 MB of SDRAM and dual Oxygen chips rendering in parallel; and the Oxygen 402, with 32 MB of SDRAM and quad Oxygen chips all rendering in parallel.
