PowerMate CT Integrates Intel's 815e Chipset

for Outstanding Versatility, Manageability and Performance

in the Networked Enterprise

SACRAMENTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 16, 2000

NEC Computers Inc., a leading provider of mobile, desktop and server computing solutions for the enterprise market, today announced a new configuration for its PowerMate(R) CT desktop computer. The new system integrates the Intel(R) 815e chipset in the base system configuration for the PowerMate CT desktop designed to provide customers with a significant increase in functionality and performance.

The PowerMate CT supports 133MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc.  Synchronous Dynamic RAM The most common type of computer memory. Dynamic RAM (DRAM, D-RAM) chips are very dense because they use only one transistor and one storage capacitor for each bit. Unlike non-volatile firmware chips (ROM, EEPROM, flash, etc. , improving overall system throughput performance significantly over the current PC-100 architecture without sacrificing price. The PowerMate CT desktop also integrates support for ATA/100 advanced storage devices, while remaining compatible with many mainstream enterprise storage solutions.

For excellent multimedia performance, the PowerMate CT integrates a single graphics driver featuring full backward compatibility See backward compatible.

"NEC Computers decided to integrate the 815e chipset in the PowerMate CT model because we believe it is the best solution for business buyers who need platform stability as well as outstanding performance," said Stacey Wu, director of product marketing for NEC Computers Inc. "Demonstrating our continued commitment to provide our customers with an excellent blend of quality and value, the PowerMate CT desktop PC meets mainstream corporate computing and expansion needs without necessarily sacrificing performance."

Network Manageability Features

Built for deployment in networked environments, the PowerMate CT desktop utilizes the built-in network feature in 815e to provide a cost effective network functionality via an add-on communication and network riser (hardware, standard) Communication and Network Riser - (CNR) A specification for audio, modem, USB and Local Area Networking interfaces of core computer logic chip sets. Tool-less, Convertible Chassis for Quick Adaptability

Flexibility is critical for IT managers attempting to deploy computers to a variety of corporate environments. The convertible chassis of the PowerMate CT desktop allows the customer to quickly remove the media drives and reposition the computer as a vertically- or horizontally-oriented system. With the variety of environments that can be encountered in an enterprise, the PowerMate CT desktop can quickly be adapted to space configuration.

Pricing and Availability

PowerMate CT desktop pricing begins at $929, and systems will be available in November 2000. The PowerMate CT desktop will be available with many built-to-order configurations, including support for Intel Pentium(R) III or Celeron(TM) processors, 20/30/40 GB(1) hard drive choices, and 64MB to 512MB RAM.
