NEC Announces New 30-Inch LCD Medical Monitor.

Widescreen, Full-Color MD304MC Display Brings Pinpoint Calibration, Consistent Light Output and Enhanced Color/Grayscale to Hospitals

CHICAGO -- NEC (NEC Corporation, Tokyo, www.nec.com, www.necus.com) An electronics conglomerate known in the U.S. for its monitors. In Japan, it had the lion's share of the PC market until the late 1990s (see PC 98).

NEC was founded in Tokyo in 1899 as Nippon Electric Company, Ltd.
 Display Solutions of America, a leading stand-alone provider of commercial and residential LCD, plasma displays and projectors, today announced the 30-inch MultiSync[R] MD304MC widescreen display, designed exclusively for the demanding needs of medical diagnostic professionals. The 4-megapixel color display is certified for radiology and emergency room environments, and includes patented technologies designed to make work easier and more accurate.

The MD304MC embodies the precision, high performance and intelligence expected from a world leader in medical displays, and yields crisper crisp·er

 display of even the most delicate shadings and color differences. With a native resolution of 2560 x 1600, the wide-gamut, widescreen LCD performs equally well in portrait or landscape orientation and is wide enough to compare side-by-side patient images.

The display features ColorComp[TM], which reduces LCD uniformity errors and compensates for differences in color/grayscale and luminance, and advanced backlight back·light

 conformance and self-correcting consistent brightness over the useful life of the monitor also are included.

The MD304MC incorporates in-plane switching (IPS) technology, which is widely accepted as the highest performing LCD technology, delivering unparalleled color reproduction and brightness uniformity by minimizing off-angle color shift. Off-angle viewing is especially important in medical settings, where colleagues are asked to validate diagnosis as they stand to the side of the computer user. Grayscales are also reproduced with excellent definition by the IPS technology.

"In medical environments such as radiology and emergency rooms, the right equipment and technology can help save lives," said Stan Swiderski, Product Manager for NEC Display Solutions. "NEC Display Solutions has many years of experience in the medical industry and has built a reputation for providing technology that allows medical facility administrators to keep the focus on their patients rather than their equipment."

The MD304MC also includes GammaComp MD software, which ensures consistent image quality, and the coupon for a free GammaComp MD colorimeter A device that measures the red, green and blue values of color. See colorimetry and color calibration. Contrast with densitometer.  gives users an extra level of performance verification. Working in conjunction with X-Light technology, the sensor also supports standalone calibration and exact monitor matching, while enhancing calibration and white-point matching for outstanding DICOM GSDF conformance. Optionally, GammaComp MD Administrator provides centralized control and management of multiple display systems.

The MD304MC display can be seen at the 2008 SIIM SIIM Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine
SIIM Scientific Instrument Interface Module
SIIM Structured Intracell Interference Mitigation
 (Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine) annual meeting in Seattle, May 15-18, in the Quest International booth No. 907. Quest is a leading provider of diagnostic imaging displays.

A partial list of features in the MultiSync MD304MC follows:

* Calibrated cal·i·brate

 to the DICOM grayscale In computing, a grayscale or greyscale digital image is an image in which the value of each pixel is a single sample. Displayed images of this sort are typically composed of shades of gray, varying from black at the weakest intensity to white at the strongest, though in  function for luminance

* X-Light Pro backlight system, which helps deliver consistent brightness and DICOM GSDF conformance, and provides the basis for excellent diagnostic consistency

* ColorComp digital uniformity correction, which reduces screen uniformity errors and compensates for differences in color/grayscale and luminance across the screen

* Internal 12-bit gamma lookup table, which provides finely detailed, high-definition rendering of color images and crisper display of even the most delicate shadings and color differences

* Digital DVI-D (DVI-Digital) See DVI.  and analog DVI-I (DVI-Integrated) See DVI.  inputs with MultiSync support of non-native resolutions

* Multi-directional controls, which allow for ease of use in either landscape or portrait modes

* Standalone calibration/matching, which enables the sensor to be connected directly to the monitor; no PC is necessary for calibration

* Medical certifications, including CE-MDD 93/42/EC, Ul60601-1 and FDA-510K pending

* Three-year limited warranty Limited warranty

A warranty with certain conditions and limitations on the parts covered, type of damage covered, and/or time period for which the agreement is good.
 with advanced overnight exchange

The display is also RoHS (Restriction on Hazardous Substances) compliant, containing fully disposable plastics and minimal amounts of hazardous materials such as lead, hex-chrome, cadmium, mercury, PBDE PBDE Polybrominated Diphenyl Ether
PBDE Pentabromodiphenyl Ether (flame retardant additive in plastics)
PBDE Parallel Block-Decodable Encoder
 and PBB PBB: see polybrominated biphenyl. .

The MD304MC is available for July 2008 shipment with an estimated street price of $3,599. To learn more about NEC Display Solutions' medical products, visit www.necdisplay.com/medical.
