NEADS wins $10,000 grant.

WORTH KNOWING

NEADS has something new to woof about. The assistance dog training organization is the recipient of a $10,000 grant handed out by the Planet Dog Foundation. Executive Director Kristen Smith said the foundation has chosen "small yet effective programs that are maximizing their impact on limited budgets."

NEADS was one of six groups to come out a winner in the foundation's fall cycle of grant-giving. All are in the business of strengthening the human-animal bond by training canines to assist people. "The quantity and quality of grant proposals has increased with every cycle," Smith said. "It is clear to us that there is a need for canine service funding, and we are excited to do our part to help fill the void."

NEADS, headquartered in Princeton, will use the grant to support Canines for Combat Veterans, which aims to restore the independence of disabled veterans through partnership with a dog.
