Independent agency of the U.S. government that supports the creation, dissemination, and performance of the arts. It was created by the U.S.
 recently announced grant recipients in its organizations and periodicals category for fiscal year 1994. This year is the second in which the periodicals were announced in the same category with visual arts organizations, and reviewed by the same 12-person peer panel. What follows in this issue is the first half of this list. The second half of the list will appear in the October 1994 issue.

Organizations may apply in this category if they have been created for artists and assure them an integral role in organizational policy development and programming, promote interaction and dialogue between artists and the public, and encourage and support contemporary art of high aesthetic quality.

Kala KALA Kalaupapa National Historic Park (US National Park Service)  Institute, Berkeley, CA $5000 To support visual arts exhibitions, installations, residencies, and a working facility for printmakers. Kenkeleba House, New York, NY $5000 To support solo and group exhibitions of emerging, underrecognized, and established minority artists from throughout the U.S. Lectures, panels, and published materials will accompany many of the exhibitions. PYS: $5500; $7500: $7500; $10,000; $5000.

Kohler Arts Center, Sheboygan, WI $25,000 To support thematic group and solo exhibitions, related publications, artists' residencies, working facilities, and a resource center. The Arts/Industry Program provides artists with equipment, financial support, and technical expertise to experiment and create new work in an industrial pottery, an iron and brass foundry, and an enamel shop. Light Factory Photographic Center, Charlotte, NC $5000 To support photography exhibitions, public programs, and services to artists. One-person and group exhibitions feature emerging and established artists from the region and elsewhere. Lectures, classes, workshops, and publications accompany the exhibitions. Light Work, Syracuse, NY $30,000 To support photography exhibitions, artists' residencies, publications, and a working facility. Month-long residencies provide opportunities for artists to create new work in a photographic and computer imaging lab. Publications include Contact Sheet and exhibition catalogs.
