The chapter cancelled its local 2001 mortars conference and its logistics conference that were scheduled for the last quarter of the calendar year. However, this year we again established the chapter as a leading force of the NDIA by implementing the chapter's president's, John Gehbauer, vision of constant improvement. We have had a significant increase in membership and have sponsored the local chapter of WID WID Width WID Widow(er) WID Women In Development WID World Institute on Disability WID What It Do? WID Writing in the Disciplines (academia) WID When It's Done , Women In Defense. We are one of three chapters to be granted the distinction of an NDIA model chapter, for the second year in a row, as a result of the hard work of the chairman of the board John Amerspec and our many volunteers. In the field of education, we are very active in supporting the national organization and Picatinny Arsenal in symposiums: the International Artillery, APBI, and mortars. The chapter conducts two major Firepower Programs. One in June, the Firepower Scholarship Benefit, is held in conjunction with our annual national symposium. The other is held in November, the Firepower Awards Luncheon, which honors those individuals who made a significant contribution to national defense. Tied to Firepower Awards calendar-wise, is a separate function recognizing annual type classifications and Material Releases. Awards are provided to Picatinny and industrial people to recognize their work in providing new firepower capability for the troops. This year the chapter has given 12 scholarship awards ($1,500 each) to outstanding high school seniors. Since 1980 the chapter has awarded approximately $400,000 in scholarships to high school seniors intending to pursue college level studies in high technology programs. Every year, the chapter provides funds for many benefit and charitable programs to include: U.S. Savings Bond Savings bond A government bond issued in face value denominations from $50 to $10,000, with local and state tax-free interest and semiannually adjusted interest rates. savings bond A nonmarketable security issued by the U.S. Drive, Army 10 Mile Run, Armed Forces Day and Picatinny Employee Appreciation Day. We have many social events including annual NDIA Holiday Party and mini-golf outings. Lastly, one of our significant Activities is the chapter's sponsorship of the Armament Research Development Advisory Council (ARDAC ARDAC Animal Rights Direct Action Coalition (San Francisco, CA) ARDAC Automatic Recognition, Detection, and Control (Eastlake, Ohio) ) for the commanding general (ARDEC ARDEC Armament Research Development and Engineering Center (US Army) ARDEC Agence Rwandaise pour le Développement et la Coopération ). This council provides independent industrial advice to the commander of ARDEC. The ARDAC meets at least twice a year in June and November in conjunction with the chapter's Firepower Programs. In addition one separate meeting is also held at an industrial site. CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD John P. Amerspek, BT Fuze fuze n. & v. Variant of fuse1.
