NCR AWARDED MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR ORDER BY NATIONAL WESTMINSTER BANK
MAJOR UK SALE OF NEW FOURTH GENERATION ATMS
DAYTON, Ohio, Feb. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR) announced that National Westminster Bank has placed a multi-million dollar order for NCR Fourth Generation Self-Service Systems, a new family of automated teller machines (ATMs) released last November.
National Westminster Bank, based in the United Kingdom, is an international financial services group with operations in 30 countries. It has the biggest branch network in Britain, with 2,800 branches nationwide.
Some 450 NCR 5684 ATMs will replace existing NCR 1780 machines at National Westminster Bank branches throughout the UK. An additional 50 NCR 5684 ATMs will be installed at new sites. This major upgrade will improve customer access to an exceptionally busy ATM network.
John Wallace, general manager, National Westminster Bank Information Technology, believes the new NCR products represent a major step forward.
"Early indications are that with the new ATMs, both the replenishment and maintenance performed by the branch staff will be much improved over earlier models. Our branches will be spending less time servicing the ATMs, and it will make the ATMs more available to our customers, which is one of our prime objectives," said Wallace.
NCR Fourth Generation Self-Service Systems are three times more reliable than previous generations of NCR ATMs. The new products offer retail banks and their customers an unprecedented availability level of up to 99.9 percent. By providing 99.9 percent availability, NCR estimates it can satisfy over 1,000 additional customer transactions per machine, per year, based on an average daily rate of 350 transactions for a through-the-wall ATM.
"This order is an endorsement of the quality products we provide," said Mike Nott, general sales manager, Financial Systems Division, NCR United Kingdom. "It continues the partnership between NatWest and NCR which began in the mid-1970s."
NCR, with 36 percent of the worldwide market share of installed self-service systems, is the worldwide market share leader. During the last 20 years, NCR has shipped more than 100,000 ATMs to more than 90 countries.
NCR(TM), the Networked Computing Resource of AT&T, develops, manufactures, markets, supports and service enterprise-wide information systems for worldwide markets.
