NCR ANNOUNCES $81 MILLION COLORADO EXPANSION

 COLORADO SPRINGS, Col., Feb. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- NCR Microelectronic Products Division announced today an $81 million expansion that will more than double production capacity at its Colorado Springs plant. Expansion work at the plant will begin in February with renovation of existing unused space to accommodate the expansion. Volume production using the expanded facility will begin in the third quarter of 1994.
 The decision by NCR Corporation to expand its semiconductor manufacturing capacity results from increased customer demand for its products. The expansion will permit NCR to employ a new generation of leading-edge semiconductor manufacturing technology and realize improved manufacturing process efficiencies.
 Michael W. Morrissey, vice president, NCR Microelectronic Products Division, stated , "This expansion will ensure that NCR customers continue to receive timely delivery of the highest quality products available. NCR is committed to providing our customers with the highest levels of product quality and service. Meeting the needs of our customers is our first priority."
 In addition to the money being spent at Colorado Springs, NCR continues to upgrade its Fort Collins, Col. fabrication facility. During 1993, NCR will install $6.5 million in additional manufacturing equipment, plus $6 million in new test equipment that will increase test capacity and help maintain productivity levels.
 NCR Microelectronics produces specialized silicon chips used to perform a variety of tasks in data processing products, including computer input/output control, computer display and graphics controllers, data management and communications devices. The new facility will produce eight-inch silicon wafers using CMOS (complementary metal oxide silicon) manufacturing technology. NCR is the world leader in sales of SCSI (Small Computer Systems Interface) chips, which it manufactures at its Colorado plants, holding about one- third of the world market. NCR MPD also leads in production of mixed- signal (containing both analog and digital circuits) cell-based ASICs, which it manufactures at its Colorado plants.
