Data from a 1999 report from the U.S. Office of Personnel Management suggests that the market potential for the CFCM and NCMA's other certifications approaches 200,000 potential registrations with approximately 87,000 people in federal service jobs directly related to contracting and procurement and similar estimates for their private sector counterparts. Fueled by government outsourcing mandates that are creating a growing need for certified contracts managers in both the public and private sector, the contract management profession is expected to hire at an above average rate over the next 5-10 years.

The Federal Module Certification Preparation Course is available for $350 to NCMA members and $450 to non-members, with corporate discounts available. Satisfactory completion of the course earns 18 CPEs toward recertification, which is required once every five years. The new course, available through the NCMA Online Education Center (www.vcampus.com/ncma), joins a robust curriculum of online courses covering the General Business Contract Management Body of Knowledge that prepares candidates for the General Business Module of the NCMA certification program. NCMA expects to add additional courses to the NCMA Online Education Center later this year.

With 18,000 members worldwide, NCMA's professional certification Professional certification, trade certification, or professional designation, often called simply certification or qualification, is a designation earned by a person to assure that he/she is qualified to perform a job or task.  and training programs are designed to elevate professional standards, enhance performance and distinguish those who demonstrate knowledge essential to the successful practice of contract management. Since its inception in 1982, approximately 6,000 people have received the Federal certification. The program was revamped in 2003 to include online, on-demand testing as well as new and improved certification preparation materials including the online courses developed with VCampus. With the new program in place, NCMA anticipates a significant increase in the number and rate of certification holders over the next two years.
