NCHD to continue supporting provincial governments education promotion.
ISLAMABAD, 17 March , 2009 (Balochistan Times) -- The Federal Government will continue to provide support to Provincial Education Departments for achievement of Education for All (EFA) goals through the Universal Primary Education (UPE) and Literacy Program of National Commission for Human Development (NCHD). Faryal Talpur, Member of National Assembly and Chairperson of Special Committee on NCHD said this in during a meeting. The Special Committee approved drafts PC-I and emphasized to include teachers training, feeder schools, especially for access to education for girls living in the remote areas of the country, post literacy program to ensure retention by the new literates and tree plantation in and around feeder schools and literacy centres. Zulfiqar Ahmad, Chief Operating Officer of NCHD presented the outline of the consolidated PC-I for Universal Primary Education (UPE) and Adult Literacy for a period of three years i.e. 2009-12. The outline highlighted outcomes of the consultative process with the provinces and National Consultative Workshop on Literacy on the basis of which the salient features, scope, implementation modalities, exit strategy, cost and other aspect of the three years PC-I were developed. Faryal Talpur was given a special briefing on Universal Primary Education, Literacy and Health Programs of NCHD. The Chairperson issued instructions to prepare proposals for immediate implementation of these programs in the backward areas of Sindh. Federal Education Secretary, Cabinet Secretary, Financial Advisor to the Cabinet Division, Farrukh K. Captain, Chairman Pakistan Human Development Fund (PHDF), Dr. Shamsh Qasim Lakha, Board member PHDF and Zulfiqar Ahmad, Chief Operating Officer NCHD participated in the meeting.
