NCD To License NCD ThinPATH Thin Client Software To Embedded Systems Vendors; Enables Enhanced Connectivity to Windows NT Terminal Servers.


MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 15, 1999--Network Computing Devices, Inc., (Nasdaq:NCDI NCDI Northern Centre for Digital Imaging (West Yorkshire, UK) ), in conjunction with the announcement of its NCD NCD - Network Computing Devices  ThinPATH software family stated that the company is making its new load balancing The fine tuning of a computer system, network or disk subsystem in order to more evenly distribute the data and/or processing across available resources. For example, in clustering, load balancing might distribute the incoming transactions evenly to all servers, or it might redirect them  and desktop peripherals client software available for license by all manufacturers of thin client platforms. This will enable vendors of terminals and hand-held devices to provide enhanced connectivity to applications running on Microsoft's Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking.  Server 4.0 Terminal Server Edition and future Windows 2000 Server.

Vendors can now license the client portions of the NCD ThinPATH Load Balancing and NCD ThinPATH Plus software royalty-free. NCD is already delivering versions of the client software that work on Windows CE (Windows Consumer Electronics) Microsoft's version of Windows for handheld devices and embedded systems that use x86, ARM, MIPS and SHx CPUs. Windows CE .NET superseded Windows CE 3.0. , Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT. With the NCD thin client software, vendors' platforms will be able to take advantage of the enhanced manageability and application compatibility offered by NCD's enhancement software for multi-user Windows NT servers. The NCD ThinPATH Load Balancing package enables hundreds or thousands of clients to automatically connect to groups of servers, with each client session assigned to the least loaded server. The NCD ThinPATH Plus package makes it possible for Windows NT applications to seamlessly connect to and use peripherals, printers, speakers, and microphones attached to a client device.
