MALIBU - Pepperdine coach Nina Matthies talked about a step-by-step approach to the postseason as her team cruised into its second-round matchup of the women's volleyball volleyball, outdoor or indoor ball and net game played on a level court. , her old coach, and her old boss, in NCAA tournament play. Before Friday's match, Pepperdine was 0-9 against Andy Banachowski's Bruins in the postseason.

Matthies began her coaching career as an assistant to Banachowski. She stayed with the program for six years before coming to Malibu.

``That was just a little more than I wanted tonight,'' Matthies said. ``I thought it could of gone either way. I was proud of how different people stepped up, my young kids did well.''

The victory was Pepperdine's 16th in a row and it set a school record for most consecutive victories.

Freshman Katy Daley put the match away for the Waves, earning two points on her serve to secure a 28-25 lead, and a 30-26 victory in the fourth game. She had six kills and six assists.

Lyndsey Hache' led Pepperdine with 17 kills, and Katie Wilkins Katie Wilkins (born 10 May 1982, Lakeside, California) is a professional volleyball player. She has been a member of Team USA since 2002 and plays professionally for the Hungkuk Pink Spiders in South Korea's Hillstate Womens Volleyball League.  had 16.

Pepperdine (25-6) lost the second game after the Bruins took a quick 4-0 lead. The Waves caught up but never got closer than two and UCLA won 30-23.

Stacy Rowenhurst, a 6 foot 3 middle blocker, and Wilkins dominated at net. The duo combined for 28 kills.

``They hit with power,'' Banachowski said. ``They're a strong attacking team, big and rangy rangy

Pepperdine will play the winner of today's UCSB-Cal match, at a site to be determined, Thursday or Friday.
