Louisiana Tech coach Leon Barmore Leon Barmore (born June 3, 1944, in Ruston, Louisiana, United States) is a college women's basketball coach. He coached at Louisiana Tech University from 1985 to 2002. Upon his retirement his .869 winning percentage was the best in women's basketball history.  might have the top-seeded team in the women's basketball Women's basketball is one of the few games which developed in tandem with men's. ``That's always a tricky question. I would like to play the worst team, no matter who that is,'' Barmore said, declining to say whether he preferred UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles

or Colorado State. ``Regardless of who we play, it will be difficult. Colorado State has a large fan following and UCLA will be playing at home.''

Gomez sprains ankle: UCLA point guard Erica Gomez sprained her ankle in the opening minutes against Colorado State and did not return to the game. Gomez went into the locker room and returned to the bench with a pair of crutches, and her availability Monday, if the Bruins defeated Colorado State, was unknown.

With Gomez out, point guard duties fell to former Crescenta Valley The Crescenta Valley is a small inland valley in Los Angeles County, California. Instant offense: The most impressive early performance was turned in by Louisiana Tech guard Betty Lennox, who scored 19 points in 18 minutes off the bench against Louisiana State.

She scored seven straight points in a one-minute, 14-second span in the first half that turned a 15-10 LSU LSU Louisiana State University

``I think she came in and hurt us a lot,'' LSU guard Marie Ferdinand said.

No bragging rights: Although they beat the big in-state school, Louisiana Tech wasn't exactly cherishing its victory over LSU.

``We're trying to go all the way,'' Lennox said. ``It didn't really matter that we played them. It didn't make the game any bigger.''

Emergency lettering job: LSU forward Detrina White was wearing the wrong jersey number (35 instead of 23) after the Lady Tigers manager forgot to pack her jersey to Los Angeles.

So LSU improvised, taking White's new jersey to a lettering shop across from their downtown hotel. Her name was spelled correctly, but barely resembled the other players' jerseys.

Tournament sightings: It almost looked like a current and ex-coaches convention inside the Sports Arena.
