But Wilkins, a two-time All-American, took control and pulled the Waves to a 23-30, 30-20, 30-14, 30-23 victory to advance to a four-team regional next weekend at Long Beach State.

After hitting -.222 in the first game, Wilkins dominated the second game to turn the momentum for the Waves. She had 11 of her match-high 19 kills in game 2.

``I think the one thing this team has is consistency,'' said Wilkins, the three-time West Coast Conference Player of the Year. ``A lot of teams come out fired up against us and play well in the first game. But we're like, `OK, they can't throw anything else at us.' ''

The Waves (27-2), ranked No. 4 in the nation, served the ball short in the second game to try and take Kansas (22-11) out of its offense.

It worked. In the first game, the Jayhawks hit .250 and the Waves hit .114. But in game 2, Pepperdine hit .457.

``We knew after watching Kansas last night and seeing them on tape all year that they were a very good team and would come out on fire tonight,'' Pepperdine coach Nina Matthies said. ``But I thought our kids weathered the storm very well and stayed steady.''

Lyndsey Hache hit .464 with 15 kills for Pepperdine. Katy Daly had 17 kills and Breegan Mulligan mul·li·gan
