Flacks, a sophomore, finished 56th as Stanford's No. 3 runner in 21:43 over the rain-soaked 6,000-meter course, to help the Cardinal defeat Colorado for the title 195-223, its third championship in four years. UC Santa Barbara was ninth with 318points.

Stanford was a surprise winner in 2005 over defending champion Colorado. This season the Cardinal had been ranked No. 1 throughout the season, with every runner back from last year's championship squad.

``This is just as exciting,'' Flacks said. ``When we all crossed the finish line, we weren't all sure if we had won it again. I wanted to run with the best runners and Stanford has the greatest runners. This is the perfect place to be.''

Sophomore Arianna Lambie was Stanford's top finisher in fourth in 20:44, followed by Teresa McWalters in 31st in 21:18 and Flacks. Sally Kipyego of Texas Tech was a wire-to-wire winner in 20:11 for a 26-second victory over Colorado's Jennifer Barringer.

Flacks didn't match her 2005 finish, when she finished 25th to earn All- American honors, but made a strong push over the final half of the multi- loop course over bumpy grass.

``I started far back but I worked my way up there and finished strong for the team,'' Flacks said.

In the men's competition, Colorado defeated defending champion Wisconsin 94-142 for the title and Josh Rohatinsky was the individual winner in 30:44 over the 10,000-meter course.
