NBA ROUNDUP: CLIPPERS DON'T NEED OVERTIME THIS TIME.Byline: Daily News Staff and Wire Services Corey Maggette scored a career-high 23 points, including 11 in a row in the fourth quarter, as the Clippers defeated Sacramento 88-81 Friday night to snap a three-game losing streak. A Staples Center crowd of 19,415 gave the Clippers their sixth sellout of the season. The Clippers beat the Kings for the first time in three meetings this season, including their second in four days. They took the Kings to overtime before losing Tuesday. Cherokee Parks grabbed 12 rebounds and Lamar Odom pulled down 11 for the Clippers, whose bench outscored the Kings' reserves 44-8. The Kings fell to 6-4 without Chris Webber, who missed his 10th game because of a sprained left ankle. Predag Stojkovic led Sacramento with 31 points. Scot Pollard added 15 points and a career-high 18 rebounds. --Chicago 81, New York 72: Elton Brand had 21 points and 11 rebounds as the Bulls, winning their 10th game of the season, upset the cold-shooting Knicks in Chicago. The Knicks shot only 3-of-20 in the fourth quarter. Chicago outscored New York 16-11 in the fourth. --Philadelphia 107, Washington 102: Allen Iverson scored 41 points to make up for his team's lackluster defense as the 76ers won at home. Dikembe Mutombo had 16 rebounds and 14 points, including three key free throws in the final minute after Washington tied the game twice in the fourth quarter and closed to 102-100 with 1:19 left. Richard Hamilton scored a career-high 34 points for Washington. --Seattle 86, Indiana 83: The visiting Sonics blew a 21-point lead in the fourth quarter before Rashard Lewis hit back-to-back baskets to pull out the win. Reggie Miller and Jermaine O'Neal missed game-tying 3-pointers in the closing seconds. --Toronto 107, New Jersey 90: The Raptors outscored the Nets 36-19 in the final quarter to hand New Jersey its 11th straight road loss. --Boston 103, Utah 99: Paul Pierce scored 12 of his 30 points in the fourth quarter as the Celtics extended their home winning streak to seven games and defeated the Jazz in Boston for the first time since Dec. 20, 1991. --Charlotte 105, Atlanta 99: Baron Davis scored a career-high 28 points to lead the visiting Hornets to their sixth win in a row. --Orlando 120, Cleveland 94: The Magic won their 12 game in the last 15 tries as Tracy McGrady scored 15 of his 36 points in the opening quarter at home. --Miami 97, Detroit 93: Eddie Jones scored eight of his 25 points in the final 1:23 of regulation to help the visiting Heat to a comeback overtime win. --Minnesota 89, Denver 71: The Nuggets, failing to capitalizing on their win over the Lakers on Wednesday, scored a season low against the team it is fighting against for the final playoff spot. |
